Battlefield 1 has finally launched and the VETs Platoon is getting knee deep in the action

battlefield-1-german-infantryBy and large, the launch has gone off with very few problems and our members are loving the game.  We have experienced some glitches though, particularly with vehicles.  We have noticed strange behavior when spawning in a vehicle where the vehicle disappears or explodes leaving you standing there with a carbine.  There have also been cases where a vehicle cannot be repaired, or remains disabled after showing the repair meter is full.  Joining a friend or a party has also not been 100% reliable.  Sometimes it gets stuck on “Loading Game” or kicks back “Unknown Error”.  These problems are minor and we agree that we still love the game.  We are more annoyed that we have to wait for hardcore mode!

Cool Features You Should Know About

battlefield-1-sentryDid you know that you can change the color of your reticle for different types of damage?  For instance, orange for hits, yellow for head shots, and red for kill shots?  This instant feedback is a nice feature.  It is not new to Battlefield 1 but not a lot of people know about this.

Advanced Sensitivity.  You can now change the sensitivity for not only your sticks, but the sticks in vehicles and aircraft.  You can drill into the options even further and tweak sensitivity for the various turrets and even for different zoom levels.  There is a lot of control here, be patient or you might go crazy!

Mortar distance varies with elevation.  This makes sense but it is not always obvious how the elevation changes when you are looking at the overhead map.  Your distance will be shown next to the target indicator.  If you are shooting uphill your distance will be much shorter.  Find a high spot and your range will be much greater.  Like sniper spots, you will want to make note of the good ones.  Don’t forget to setup behind some cover as you are very exposed when firing the mortar.

Artillery aim stays in it’s last position.  After you take a shot, you can switch to your sniper scope to help spot your aim.  If the shot is long enough you will see where it lands.  When you go back to the artillery piece, it will be aiming at the same place where it was last fired.  Make your adjustment and fire away!

img_0529SMG’s are more accurate in long bursts.  This one is a hint directly from the game.  The first shot is on target, the next couple of rounds vary across the shot pattern, then as the burst continues the accuracy comes back to center.  Seems counterintuitive to how we have been approaching burst fire, but if you hold the trigger down a little longer, your aim actually improves.

So Far So Good

The launch of Battlefield 1 has been better than past versions, even with some of the problems we have run into.  Let us know what you think.  Do you have any tips or tricks you want to share?  Post them in the comments, we will be putting together a list to share with the platoon.

L.I.P Communications at the squad level When you where in your real life units, you where new and had to learn everything then learn your members and eventually with time and many field ops later you became fluid in squad talk Here with the different levels and ages and the turnover of the squad members it could be beneficial to maybe start fresh with a few staples of communication How to talk , when to talk , and what to talk about,.,, who what when where NOT WHY! In real life an oppositional force of 2-4 could tie a team… Read more »

I want more of this. Clear, Concise and Correct information needs to be at the root of all squad level communication. I’m no soldier, I was a Seabee so I don’t know a whole lot of ARMY or Marine types of communication but I do have a problem when communicating fast. I know I’m not the only one too.

Supertramp0331 communication is paramount in that it has to happen to allow our actions to move with fluidity whether reactionary or intended , to readjust our tactics in a manner to our benefit – This should be done by as few people as possible Saying this is common sense, it’s a war game and we have actual warriors playing it, this is my idea on how to achieve this For 1 platoon of 32 My idea is to have 4 teams – Each team consists of two 4 man squads each team with 1 team leader and 1 squad leader… Read more »

Spawning on a four man squad
QRF with a four man squad in hardcore mode could be as simple as spawning on a objective or as sneaking as a squad change
If a member of any squad get through the lines or an area that has a surprise element any member can change squads and spawn on that person , once spawned that member creates a squad and the rest follow to be squad
Went from one person to at least 8
It’s important to do this off objective while utilizing cover
